Christmas Tree Hacks To Have You Decorating Like A Pro!

Christmas Tree Hacks To Have You Decorating Like A Pro!

Decorating a Christmas tree is not for the faint of heart! Although one of my favourite things to do in the entire year, setting up the Christmas tree can be a huge task and intimidating, especially when trying to achieve that perfect, Hallmark movie-worthy look!

I've curated my top tips and hacks below to help you create an amazing Christmas tree that will have all of your family and friends asking if you hired a professional!

1. Fluff It Up!

No matter the cost or quality of your tree, the secret to achieving a full-looking Christmas tree is to adequately fluff the tree branches. After being stuffed in a box for the past 11 months, the branches of your tree are most likely squashed and bent out of shape. Fluffing your tree helps resurrect and refresh your tree for another year.

When it comes to the best way to fluff a tree, you want to ensure every branch on the stem points in a different direction. That means not just pulling out the branches horizontally but also bending some up and down. This will give your tree the most natural look and will also help to fill any possible gaps.

2. Fill Those Bald Spots!

If you've fluffed your tree within an inch of its life and you're still thinking it doesn't look full enough, don't worry; you don't necessarily need to buy a brand new expensive tree; you may just need to take some extra steps to give your tree a little facelift.

The best hack for filling out a tree that's looking a little sparse is to add picksribbons or florals. These items not only fill gaps in your tree but also add depth and dimension, making your tree more interesting to look at.

If you're tree needs some serious TLC, you can also weave in a garland amongst the branches to fill out your tree even more.

3. Crowning Glory!

The next hack will help save many tears that could potentially be shed and reduce ornament breakage during the decorating process. Once the tree is fluffed, the next step I take is actually to add the tree topper to your tree. Adding your tree topper before you add any ornaments means you minimize the risk of accidentally knocking any ornaments off while trying to get the star just right!

Many of us have probably struggled with relentlessly rearranging a star that will not sit straight on the tree. It's almost like that annoying spiral base is trying to ruin all of the hard work we put into decorating. The best way to avoid this is to actually attach your star or tree topper with fishing wire or zip ties. Normally, your tree topper is too top-heavy to be supported by the spiral base, but if you attach that base to the spine of your tree with wire, this problem is greatly resolved. You can also manipulate the branches around the spiral of your tree topper to hide the base as much as possible.

4. P. O. P. D (Perfect Ornament Placement Disorder)

Sure, you can just place your ornaments wherever you like and call it a day, or you can obsess over every bauble and ornament you place on the tree as I do. Where you place your ornaments can impact your tree's overall look.

Sticking with the theme of a full tree with lots of dimensions, a great way to elevate your look is to place your ornaments at different depths throughout your tree. Placing highly reflective or sparkly ornaments deep in your tree towards the trunk will not only add an element of interest but can also hide any gaps you may have.

When it comes to decorating with ornaments and baubles, there are a few rules I always like to follow.

Firstly, bigger ornaments should be placed in the lower third of the tree, as this will help balance the overall look. As you work your way up to the top of the tree, this is where you can add those smaller baubles.

Secondly, you want to ensure your baubles and ornaments are hanging from the branches, not sitting on top of the branch below. Your baubles need to be dangling from the branches if you want to achieve that professional look!

Finally, the last ornaments you should place on your tree are those special, interesting, sentimental ornaments. These give your tree lots of character and will ensure these special ornaments take pride of place on your tree.

5. The Twinkly Finishing Touches!

Now that your tree has been fluffed, the ribbon has been draped, and ornaments hung, the perfect way to finish off your tree like a pro is to add a string of very dainty wire lights. These lights can add extra ambience to areas of your tree that look a little dark, can be used to highlight your special ornaments and can also be wrapped around your tree topper to really make your star shine!

I hope these tips and hacks help you create the most amazing Christmas tree this year!

Happy decorating!
